Character and mood
Timeless is exactly what it sounds like. A black-and-white preset with presence, but without fuss. No pushed contrast, no crushed shadows, no drama competing for attention. What you get is a calm, balanced image that keeps the person in focus. The mood is classic, the kind you see in analogue portraits that still hold up decades later.
The preset brings down clarity slightly, so light falls softer and more evenly across the face. Highlights are pulled back without losing detail, shadows stay open enough to preserve structure. Contrast sits in the midtones, where facial features gain the most depth and character. The tone curve runs gradually, no hard bends. The result is a grey that has richness to it, with a slight warmth in the darker zones that makes the image feel more human than cold digital black and white usually does.
Timeless works best for male portrait photography where texture and expression carry the story. Think close-ups and half-figure portraits, especially with a rougher or more defined face. Soft side light, window light, or a single artificial source all work well. The preset also suits more formal portraits and corporate photography where you still want to hold onto some warmth and humanity.
You reach for Timeless when you want a portrait that does not shout but stays with you. When you care more about character than effect. It suits photographers who want their images to carry a certain stillness, a feeling that the image will look just as good in ten years as it does today.
A practical tip: after applying the preset, adjust exposure based on your specific shot. Timeless is calibrated for correctly exposed images, but a small correction of plus or minus 0.3 stops gives you more control over the balance between highlight detail and open shadows. Then look at the luminance sliders per colour channel, particularly orange and red, to steer skin tone further in the direction you want.
Installation
Lightroom Classic & CC (desktop)
Unzip the downloaded file on your computer. Open Lightroom Classic and go to the Develop module. Right-click the Presets panel, choose 'Import Presets', and select the .xmp file. The preset appears in your list immediately and can be applied to any photo straight away.
Lightroom Mobile
Lightroom Mobile syncs presets via the cloud. Import the .xmp file into Lightroom CC on your desktop first. Once cloud sync completes, the preset is automatically available on your phone or tablet. An Adobe CC subscription is required for this sync feature.
Capture One
Unzip the file. Open Capture One and navigate to the Styles panel. Click the arrow next to 'Styles' and choose 'Import Style'. Select the .costyle file. The style is available in your library immediately. Works with Capture One version 21 and later.
DaVinci Resolve / Premiere Pro (3D LUT)
